Partner Search- Eurostars: partner sought for development of new biological solution for plant production

Ανάρτηση: 08/06/2016

A French company specialised in the development of biological solutions for plant production is preparing a project proposal for the next Eurostars call. The project aimed to develop a new biological product based on mycorrhizal fungi and Deleterious Rhizobacteria (DRB). They are looking for SMEs, R&D institution and university with an expertise in deleterious rhizobacteria for a research cooperation agreement.

Weeds cause more economic losses on agricultural lands than all other pests combined. Currently, the most effective means of managing weeds are herbicides, which account for more than 60 % of all pesticides used in crop production.
In recent years biological methods have become known as effective and appropriate ways of weed control. Phytotoxic secondary metabolites from pathogenic as well as non-pathogenic microorganisms can, as a biological product, be a valuable component in integrated weed control programs.
One group of microorganisms largely overlooked as biocontrol agents of weeds is the Deleterious Rhizobacteria (DRB) that can colonize plant root surfaces and suppress plant growth. Many DRB are plant specific, as for downy brome (Bromus tectorum) occurring in winter wheat fields, and others colonize several broadleaf weed seedlings.
On the other hand, mycorrhizal fungi procure beneficial effects on plant growth and health and could provide a good partner for DRB for developing a new product with 2 specificities: one for stimulating crop development and the second for protecting against crop weeds. The development of this new biological product is the aim of this project.
A French company, specialised in development of biological solutions as alternatives to chemical input in plant production and more specifically in technologies for managing mycorrhizal fungi in plant production, will submit a project to the Eurostars call. The company is presently participating in 2 european projects (Eurostars and Eco-innovation) and in 1 project for Mediterranean countries.
They are looking for SMEs, R&D institutions or universities from Eurostars countries with experience in DRB to complete the project.
